The white sturgeon can live up to 100 years and is the largest fresh water fish in North America

F or millions of years, the white sturgeon nosed along river bottoms, using the barbels around its mouth to detect prey. The white sturgeon can live up to 100 years and is the largest fresh water fish in North America. These giants will periodically rocket out of their deep river homes, hang motionless in the air for a split second, then crash back into the depths with a huge splash

Unfortunately, the species is now endangered because of overfishing in the 1900’s, dams that have blocked migration routes and water pollution.
