B ecause of anglers’ love of the rainbow trout, it has spread from western North America to 6 continents, becoming the most widely introduced species in the world. The trademark colourful appearance and heavily spotted back and sides vary in hue with lifestyle and habitat. Rainbow trout in streams are bottom feeders but will often rise to the surface to leap for a struggling insect.

They are highly respected by fly fisherman because of their spectacular jumps and fighting strength.

Cool, well-oxygenated waters; near swift currents in streams; throughout southern 2/3 of province.
